The Detroit Lakes High School has a great high school skiing program for kids in grades 7-12. They can compete at the Jr. High, Junior Varsity and Varsity levels.

Skiers learn and compete in both the Skate (Freestyle) technique and Classic technique. Races range from approximately 2.5 to 4 kilometers for Jr. High races and 5 to 10 kilometers for the Junior Varsity and Varsity skiers.

Ski Meet Schedule

Eligibility for meets:  

1. Each skier must be at practice the immediate 5 days prior to the ski meet.*
2. Each skier must complete the given team workouts.
3. Each skier must be current in the classroom.
4. Each skier must be in good standing on the team.
5. Middle school skiers are encouraged to attend all the weekend meets.**
6. Middle school skiers can attend weekday meets.***

*  Exceptions to this rule can be made.  Example: REQUIRED school functions. However, missing practice must be cleared prior to missing practice. Illness is considered a missed practice. Make-up class-work and class projects or involvement in other extra-curriculars are not an acceptable excuse.

 It is not fair to the rest of the team to have less than full commitment.

For Mountain View buses will pick students up at the high school and return them around 5:45.  At Dunton Locks the parents may pick up children at 5:45.

Dunton Locks: (waxing nights) Jan 8, 11, 13, 22, 29 and Feb 2nd

Mountain View Rec Area: Jan 6, 7, 15, 19, 20, 21, 27, 28 and Feb 1st 

Clothing:  Please dress appropriately for outdoor activities. Make sure you are warm enough but still able to move freely. Layers are best, and synthetic fabrics (NOT cotton!) are best for the layer right against your skin. Shorts and short sleeve shirts are NOT acceptable!!
